The experience begins in Brookstown, an old industrial district whose innovative leaders set the foundation for modern Winston-Salem. Going north into downtown itself, guests will see the old boundary line between the two towns and learn the origin of the city’s unique name. Also featured on the tour is the amazing story of the country’s first successful sit-in and the creation of the Tobacco Town, all before experiencing our beautiful Arts District. The downtown area of Winston-Salem is rich in history and has become a part of the American identity creating household names that you may not realize are from our little corner of North Carolina.
